James "Doc" Garrels July 15, 1944 - June 5, 2024 EL PASO - James "Doc" Garrels, 79, of El Paso, passed away at 4:24 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on July 15, 1944, in Peoria a son of Carl and Lucille Jansen Garrels. He married Cheryl May on January 15, 1966 in Secor. She survives. Surviving also include one daughter, Michele (La'Mar) Gulley of Bloomington; two grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Randy Garrels of El Paso. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one twin sister. Doc worked as a factory worker at General Electric in Bloomington for 33-and-a-half years. James served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1967-1969. James was a devoted El Paso Gridley Sports fan.
